John joined a welcoming group of family and friends for a joyous reunion in December 16, 2018. He was ready to be enveloped into the arms of all our family and friends in heaven, and be showered with love during the Christmas season. Son of the late John R. Fatersik and Rita Graham Fatersik of Milton, MA, he leaves his beloved sisters Paula Fatersik of Braintree, MA and Virginia Zifchak and husband Bill of Ocean Pines, MD and their children Kara and Jonathan. John is also survived by many cousins, all of whom knew and loved him as "cousin" and "Uncle Johnny".
Born July 18, 1944, John was raised in Milton, MA and had lived in San Francisco, CA, New York City, NY and Marietta, GA before returning to Ft. Lauderdale, FL full time. He was a graduate of St. Agatha's in Milton, Boston College High School and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. For many years, John worked with the travel industry at Northeast Airlines, American, and KLM. He worked as a marketing executive with Delta Airlines for 17 years in both NYC and Atlanta before continuing his travel career with Certified Vacations. All who knew John will remember his unwavering generosity, kindness and respect for all with whom he worked, mentored and shared his time.
He was the master of the dry one-liner and those will outlive his presence for years to come. If you knew John, you heard them. "You can't make this stuff up." "Sometimes it doesn't pay to be dead right." "That's above my pay grade." and always, "It is what it is." John was the consummate gentleman, always making people feel comfortable, the first to hold the door, seat you respectfully, light a cigarette or get you where you needed to be, with never a second thought. With his genteel nature, he treated everyone as if they were the most special person in that moment. On call during Sept. 11, John assisted many travelers and families, always with care and respect.
During all of his travels, John enjoyed seeing the world and golfing at the finest courses here in the states, on the islands and overseas. His golf events included playing on a senior PGA team with Robert Murphy among others. He also excelled in tennis while in high school and college. All of his life, John had a keen interest in his cars. From the Porsche in his college years, to his Cadillacs, which he turned over to his Mom and Dad when getting a new one, and the unforgettable limousine he kept for airport pickups in Marietta, GA. It was a luxurious adventure riding in the back! And his music, there was always the music. John was eclectic in his taste. From alternative rock, to Sinatra, Mantovani, Mark Knoffler, Peter Wolf and the sultry Norah Jones, John loved listening to artists and groups whom he considered "brilliant".
John had such a good heart, the best really, and those who were lucky enough to be in his circle know just how much they have lost. We will forever be thankful to have had him in our lives, enjoying excellent adventures with him. Now, we will live with precious memories and he will own a piece of our hearts forever. In honoring John's life, his family and friends will plan a celebration of life at a later date for all to share and remember him, with glasses raised high, as we all reflect on the incredible son, brother, friend and gentleman he was. His spirit lives on within us, until we meet again.
